1st Australia-China conference on science, technology and innovation - Perth

The inaugural Australia-China Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation was held at the University of Western Australia from 2 to 6 February 2017.

It was organised by Nanocomm Hub Chief Investigator Professor Guowei Ma of the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering, UWA who is also the President of the WA Chinese Scientists Association.

The conference attracted 261 scholars and students, government officials and policy makers, industry leaders and entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders from both Australia and China.

The conference had a multi-disciplinary focus with six forums: sustainable and resilient infrastructure, medical science and public health, clean energy, agriculture and food sciences, business and entrepreneurship, and young professionals.

The sustainable and resilient infrastructure forum which was chaired by Prof Guowei Ma attracted more than 50 per cent of the conference participants. Colleagues from Australian Universities also strongly supported the forum, including Prof Brian Uy/The University of Sydney, Prof Priyan Mendis and Dr Lihai Zhang/The University of Melbourne, Prof Chien Ming Wang/The University of Queensland, Prof Guoxing Lu/Swinburne University, Prof Chengqing Wu/University of Technology Sydney, Prof Xiangyu Wang/Curtin University, Prof Yuantong Gu/Queensland University of Technology, Prof Jian Zhao and Prof Wenhui Duan/Monash University.

ARC Nanocomm Hub sponsored the forum as one of the Gold Sponsors. As an invited speaker, Prof Wenhui Duan delivered a speech on “ARC Nanocomm: China and Iran Program”.
